Holy Ground: What Putin Was Trying to Say—and Why It Matters

I meant to write this last year, right after Tucker Carlson’s interview with Vladimir Putin. But at the time, I was reaching people on TikTok—until my account was permanently banned. I never started a new one. Maybe this blog is a better place for deeper truths anyway.

You can still watch the full Putin interview here:

And here’s why that interview mattered more than anyone seemed to understand.

A Forgotten Holy Ground: Ukraine / Kiev

In the very beginning of that conversation, Putin gave a history lesson that most people overlooked. But listen closely to the moment he talks about 988 A.D., the year of the Baptism of Rus':

"The next, very significant date in the history of Russia, was 988. This was the Baptism of Russia, when Prince Vladimir... baptized Russia and adopted Orthodoxy, or Eastern Christianity... From this time the centralized Russian state began to strengthen... after the Baptism of Russia, the same faith and rule of the Prince. A centralized Russian state began to take shape."

—Vladimir Putin, 2024
(Full transcript)

This wasn’t just about political consolidation or national unity. In Putin’s mind—and the minds of millions of Orthodox Christians—the land of Kiev is not just geography, it is sacred ground. It’s the spiritual womb from which the Russian Christian identity was born.

💧 Why Baptism Matters

Let’s talk about baptism, because that’s the key.

Romans 6:3-4 (NIV):
“Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead... we too may live a new life.”

When Prince Vladimir was baptized in 988, he didn’t just convert himself. He converted an entire people. The mass baptism that followed along the banks of the Dnieper River was the spiritual rebirth of a nation.

And if you understand scripture, you’ll understand how serious that is. To be baptized is to be reborn.

John 3:5 (ESV):
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

That rebirth places one under God’s authority—not man’s. Not a president, not a king, not a parliament.

The War Beneath the War

Now fast forward to recent history. After the Soviet Union collapsed, Ukraine stood at a crossroads. Many welcomed Western influence, but others saw a slow-motion erasure of their Orthodox Christian roots.

Consider this:

  • The Ukrainian government—installed with help from the Obama administration—has increasingly moved to restrict Orthodox Christianity.

  • Dozens of churches have been destroyed, and clergy have been arrested or exiled.

  • Meanwhile, even during the height of Communism, Soviet leaders left certain churches untouched—like the iconic St. Basil’s Cathedral in Red Square.

To Putin—and to many others—this isn’t just political. It’s spiritual. It’s a war on memory. A war on baptism. A war on holy ground.

One Day to God

Some say, “That was 1,000 years ago. Who cares?”

But remember what the Bible says:

2 Peter 3:8 (KJV):
“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

From God’s perspective, it’s only yesterday that Russia was baptized. The faith that sprang from the Dnieper is not ancient—it’s alive. And what happens in Ukraine isn’t just strategy—it’s blasphemy or blessing, depending on what’s done.

Imagine if Israel destroyed the places where Jesus walked, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Garden Tomb. The world would erupt. So why do we not recognize the same sacredness when it comes to the birthplace of a nation’s baptism?

Not About Sides—But Sight

Now I know what people say:

“You’re on Putin’s side.”

No. I’m not on any man’s side. I’m on the side of truth. The side of prophecy. The side of understanding.

Too many people today are caught in a "team" mentality—my side versus yours—even if your team loses every moral and spiritual game. That’s cult behavior, not discernment.

This post isn’t about politics. It’s about why this is happening.

Baptism Is the First Law

Here’s something you may not have considered:

Nothing on Earth—natural or manmade—escapes water.

Everything born into this world is washed, shaped, or submerged by water. Even concrete and steel must be mixed with water before they become something.

Genesis 1:2 (KJV):
“And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

Before there was light—there was water.
Before there was law—there was baptism.

Baptism is the first spiritual law, and it supersedes every earthly one. Once baptized, no ruler, nation, or law has claim over you.

Let Me Be Clear

If anyone truly wanted to end this war, I could end it in a few days. Because this isn’t a military battle—it’s a spiritual one. And spiritual wars require spiritual strategies.

The same applies to Israel and Palestine. Until we recognize what is truly Holy, and how baptism sets people free from all manmade chains, we’ll keep fighting shadows.

A Footnote for the Curious

I used to run a big coffee company in Moscow—Black Dot Coffee. I don’t own it anymore. Divorce is a story for another day. But I’ve walked the streets, stood inside the churches, tasted the water, and seen the people. I know the heartbreak of that land.

So I speak with more than just knowledge. I speak with witness.

📖 Final Scripture to Reflect On:

Ephesians 4:5-6 (KJV):
“One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”

Let’s wake up to what’s happening.

Not to take sides in an earthly war,
but to recognize where the ground itself has been soaked in sacred water—
and where it must never be defiled.
